Constitutional Review. Time to rethink the five year mandate. It forces our leaders to look for quick wins, and this is often at the expense of longer term and more sustainable results. Short five year terms may be OK for “matured” economies, their railways are already built, road infrastructure in place, cities more or less set, tradition of rule of law entrenched, elections are not marred by violence or intimidation and so on.
In a situation where we are building economies, all of the above are not in place, and not very much can be achieved in what ends up as the three effective years for construction and development.
Who defined 4/5 years anyway to be the limits for a governing group in a developing country?
I SAY, TIME FOR A RETHINK!
